module 6
Voiced /th/
Introduction
So far, you have learned that English pronunciation differentiates between two forms of /th/, namely between the ‘voiceless’ /th/ that was covered in the previous section, and the ‘voiced’ /th/, which will be centralised in this module. You have also experienced the difference between both sounds yourself by feeling whether your vocal cords vibrated or not when you pronounced /th/ words.
If you have practised well, you will find that it is no longer a problem for you to pronounce the ‘voiceles’ /th/ sound. It might be a problem still to pronounce it consistently. Later on in this section, you are going to practise with that sound further. First, however, it is time to zoom in on the ‘voiced’ /th/ sound. Watch the instruction video to learn how this sound should be produced.
